Altitude Diving

Diving in High-Altitude lakes, rivers and quarries can be a beautiful experience - but this type of diving requires a little extra knowledge in order to be safe and problem free.

Our Altitude Diving course covers all you need to know to safely plan dives at locations with elevations over 1,000 feet, such as beautiful Lake Minnewaska State Park near New Paltz, New York where this course is conducted.

During our morning lecture, we will review: why dive tables are not designed for direct use above 1,000 feet, ascent rates, the use of correction tables, how the body responds differently to altitude diving, using altitude-compensating dive computers and how to safely plan high-altitude dives in the future.

No special equipment is required but each student needs two tanks since there is no dive shop nearby. Also, we will be spending the whole day on the Lake, so you will need to bring your own lunch, snacks and drinks. There are few food choices on the Lake.

Our Altitude Diving course now counts towards one of the programs needed for SSI Advanced Open Water Certification. The cost of the program includes all instruction and your Specialty certification in Altitude Diving.  Members of the class are responsible for any diver entrance fee or parking fee (per vehicle).  All students must bring their C-Card.

Please check our online Calendar for the next date this course will be held. Class size is limited so if you are interested, call us today at 516-796-6560 to hold a position in the next class for you.

This is a weather dependent course. There is no protection from the elements and we are not allowed to erect any type of canopy.
