Local Beach Dives
Here is a look at the beach dives we have been doing here on the Island.
Old Ponquogue Bridge
The Old Ponquogue Bridge is a challenging dive because of the tides. We need to make the dive at high tide. The bridge is sweep by some strong current most of the time. When high slack tide comes the water stops and changes direction. This give us the opportunity to have a great dive. The strong current brings in lots of nutrients and so we have a solid eco system. Lots of marine life.

The “bridge”, which now looks like a fishing pier started as part of a wooden draw bridge. When the new bridge was build the old one was left for fisherman to fish from and divers to dive under. Water depths are about 25 feet with much of the dive in only 15 feet of water.

If you are planning your own dive, plan it for hight tide (better visibility), and be at the dive site at least 2 hours before the predicted tide. The tide times are “predicted” and we have had tides come early and late. The best way to learn how to plan a dive at this great dive site is to come to one of our dives. Foster Beach - Sag Harbor
This is a simple dive with very little tidal issues. High tide is best but you can dive it almost any time. Easy enter for the road. Usually warmer than other beach dives because the bay is shallow. Not much deeper than 15 feet. Most of the dive is in 10 feet of water. Marine life is limited but there are things to see.
This is the dive to do when you want to get back into things. You can do one or two dives here. Exploring the bay requires you take a flay with you at all time.
